Cleaning on New Year’s Day keeps the house clean the whole year
And to once again emphasize the wild diversity of people’s superstitions, some folks steer clear of cleaning only on certain days, while the others swear by it.
Real estate broker Jordan Scarpino remembers what his parents taught him: not cleaning the entire house on New Year’s Day would only make people lazy for the rest of the year. “My mom used to say, if we don’t clean the entire house on the first day of the year, it’s not gonna be clean for the rest of the year.”
Imagine you’d have to wake up early on New Year’s Day and start sweeping and cleaning around your guests: “Sorry guys, it’s for good luck!”
