Don’t spill salt

Matthew Baratta, vice president of operations at “Daimer Industries”, describes how he grew up hearing from relatives that spilling salt is a form of “invitation” for evil spirits to perform evil deeds in the house, bringing the spiller only bad luck.

If you’re spilling salt, he adds, you should throw it over your left shoulder, in order to prevent spirits from getting the upper hand. The interesting part of this superstition is its roots: salt had always been a precious commodity in ancient history, and by spilling it, you basically make a big waste. In conclusion, the carelessness of spilling salt was prevented by growing this superstition.
