Sweeping at night is bad luck
There’s a common superstition in many countries that sweeping after the dark has set can only bring bad luck. But as we all know, behind any superstition there is a reasonable explanation.
Nitish, a lifestyle and fitness blogger and personal trainer from India, explains how this superstition came to be: “In ancient times, when there was no electricity, brooming at night with minimal lighting might also sweep away expensive items, such as rings, earrings, and chains out of the house.”
Similarly, in West Africa, the same superstition advises you to avoid sweeping at night, because you might sweep away your good luck.
