Old photos, books, newspapers, documents, paintings, and artwork are all off-limits for the garage. These things are negatively affected by humidity, bugs, heat, and even light. Heat can cause paint to expand and crack on paintings. Humidity, heat, and light can cause discoloration and even mildew on documents, photos, and reading materials of any kind.

You know those silverfish you see gathering around your drains and other dark, damp areas of the house? They, like moths, will chew up anything you store in these areas. So, remember, nothing of value should be stored in these areas. Any official documents like passports, old photographs, education degrees, or sentimental artwork should never end up in your garage.
