If you’re lucky enough to have a roomy garage, basement, or attic, they can offer lots of storage space. But because of critters, location, and weather, these areas of your house aren’t always ideal for storing everything.

Even if you’re the most cautious and organized homeowner, you should never keep certain things in these areas of the house if you want to keep them in tip-top shape.

One of the reasons you shouldn’t store items in your garage or basement is the potential for water damage. Not only are these areas susceptible to flooding and accidents like fallen trees during wind storms, but the climate also plays a big role in this aspect.

For instance, if you live in the South, you know what I’m talking about when I say the humidity is awful. Most areas of the South deal with muggy conditions the majority of the year, which can lead to water damage.

However, water damage isn’t the only threat. Heat can cause significant damage as well and even ruin some items. It’s needless to say that animals can also get into your garage, basement, or attic. Whether it’s a raccoon in the garage, mice in the basement, or moths or birds in the attic, critters aren’t preoccupied with taking care of your stuff.
