A 2016 study conducted by Amerisleep found that a one-week-old pillowcase contains an average of 3 million colony-forming units of germs per square inch. For reference, that’s 17,000 times more germs than what you’d find on your toilet seat. Don’t change your pillowcase for three weeks, and you could be dealing with as many as 8 million. Now that’s disgusting!

When experts from the University of Mauritius tested 100 kitchen towels after one month of use, they discovered that nearly half of them were teeming with some sort of bacteria.
