4. In your filing cabinets
Another place that is the perfect spot for mold is inside your filing cabinets. Your much-needed paper is made of wood pulp, which is the greatest organic feast for mold spores.
If your home is a victim of severe humidity or water damage, it means that your paper files could easily become damp, which means that you’ll have the most annoying mold-feeding frenzy. Yes, no good.
Unfortunately, once a piece of paper has been contaminated with mold, it can be pretty challenging to stop the damage from transferring to your other files, so the best thing to do in a case like this is to prevent it.
Be careful with the place where you store your things because attics, damp boxes, and basements can be pretty dangerous. An easy way to prevent a mold disaster from happening is by getting a high-quality dehumidifier for your home and using it during the colder months of the year.
5. On (or under) your floor mats
Your omnipresent dormant is amazing for scraping grass, snow, and mud off your shoes, but those daily uses can trap moisture in and under the mat, which, you guessed it, can be a cozy environment for mold spores to grow and have a blast.
You should rinse your mats regularly and clean them with a good detergent. Give some attention to the floor too, and don’t forget to allow them a couple of hours or even days to dry.
6. Beneath wallpaper and drywall
If you don’t see it, it doesn’t mean it isn’t there. You might be surprised to find mold behind your wallpaper, drywall, under paneling, and even on the back side of your wallboard.
You can get rid of it by regularly wiping down your walls, and don’t forget to check the steam between floors and ceilings for any mold particles. Another thing you could do is prime the area with high-quality mold-inhibiting paint to prevent any issues that might appear before you install drywall or wallpaper.
