If you enjoy the occasional risotto now and then, you should know by now that the rice grains can swell up and clump in water. This means that disposing of your rice down the drain might affect it.

According to Mark Dawson, chief operating officer at Benjamin Franklin Plumbing, rice, as an absorbent food, “can expand in your pipes and contribute to clogs”.

If you want to throw the leftover rice without being afraid it will block the pipes, toss them into the trash bin. I mean, it’s more advantageous than calling the plumber everytime you’re cooking rice, and it’s better for your pipes as well.
