Onion skins
Whether it’s chopped, diced, or in chunks, onion waste should not be a problem for your garbage disposal. However, what might be a problem is the thin membrane that lies below the dry, outer-most layer of an onion.
Can you picture it? Good, now imagine that wet and thin layer being removed before chopping the onion, and thrown into the disposal.
That tiny little layer is so thin, that it can escape the disposal, miss the impellers, and wind up wedged in the drain, where it acts as a cargo net on a pickup. As interesting as it might be, the most uninteresting part of onion can do so much harm to your garbage disposal.
