1. Goodbye, Traditional Layouts

According to interior designer Bradley Odon, the formulaic living room layout is definitely a thing of the past in 2023. “We’re going to leave those traditional living room layouts behind, like matching sofas with a pair of table lamps or two matching swivels,” Odom says.

He predicts that a formulaic arrangement won’t bring an exciting feeling anymore. Instead, Odoms told us that people are going to choose layouts and pieces that create a unique setting. “Whether that’s a really distinctive chair or a leather-wrapped couch that anchors the room, we’re making room for items that stand out,” Odom says.

2. No More Predictable Accessories

This living room trend comes in addition to the previous one. According to Odom, unexpected living room accessories are going to be quite popular in 2023. This doesn’t mean you should get rid of your traditional coffee table books, but rather experiment with more exciting or sentimental accessories.

“We rely heavily on small sculptural items and books in a way that we’re moving past,” Odom says. “I believe that we’ll see more special accessories without the distraction of other pieces we see over and over again.”

He points out that pedestals are currently a rising décor item that embraces this exact approach. “It truly can anchor a room in an appealing way,” he explains.
