Cleaning takes a lot of effort, so there’s nothing worse than spreading dirt as well as bacteria when you’re supposed to, well, clean. To help destroy some cleaning myths, we talked with Carolyn Forté, the director of the Home Care & Cleaning Products at the Good Housekeeping Institute.

Cleaning supplies weren’t as advanced in the past as they are nowadays, so it’s understandable why some cleaning myths exist. Furthermore, they have a way of propagating themselves, especially with today’s social media platforms.

“I don’t think these myths will ever go away. People have always been fascinated by myths, whether they believe them or debunk them. Consumers also have their own cleaning tips that they love to share and love to hear cleaning hacks from others”, says Forté.
