6. “Using more laundry detergent will do a better job.”

Believe it or not, adding too much laundry detergent can actually end up leaving an extra layer of gunk on your linens or clothing. That’s because more soap creates more suds — which will do more harm than good since the washing machine’s rinse cycle isn’t designed to handle a high amount of suds.

On top of that, the additional detergent makes your laundry quite slippery, which prevents the clothing items from rubbing against each other — an important step in removing the dirt.

Also, the residue that’s left on your laundry is also a problem for your washing machine as it accumulates over time, especially in all the nooks, crannies, and corners. This will create ideal conditions for mold and bacteria to grow, eventually leading to stinky “clean” laundry.
