The ‘art’ of taxidermy has been around since the Middle Ages but as our social and environmental consciences bloomed in the 1970s, it almost completely disappeared. However, it saw somewhat of a resurgence of interest in the 1990s, which can partially be attributed to the British artist Damien Hirst, famous for preserving animals like sharks, lambs, and cows in formaldehyde, and started a new trend of the use of taxidermy in interior design.
In 2010, it could be argued that it was possibly making a comeback when Scottish brewery Brewdog encased its The End of History ale in woodland animals. Thankfully, that was just a passing fancy and the practice of taxidermy remains firmly in the past.
