Another mainstay of the 1980s was the use of glass blocks. These square-shaped blocks of wavy glass were used to add decorative flair to a kitchen island or a bathroom and eventually found their way into pretty much every other room in the house. Even the floor got the glass block treatment!
There has been talk of the glass blocks having somewhat of a resurgence, but some architects have hilariously described them as ‘the acne of building materials’ and we tend to agree.
