You’ve probably used baking soda to remove stubborn stains from aluminum pans and pots. It’s actually fine if you give aluminum kitchenware a quick scrub with baking soda, but you shouldn’t let the baking soda mixture sit too long on the surface.
That’s because long-term exposure to this kitchen staple can oxidize the surface, resulting in irreversible damage. In fact, even the smallest amount of baking soda residue can leave brown rusty spots on aluminum cookware. If you really want to clean aluminum kitchenware with baking soda, make sure you thoroughly rinse them after you’re done cleaning to prevent any discoloration.
