#3 Forgetting about the backsplash

A trap a lot of homeowners fall into is not considering the backsplash early in their design plan. Not only are there a myriad of colors, textures, and materials for the backsplash, but it can also make or break your kitchen. The backsplash can tie in a design, refine it, or even manage to soften the overall feel of the room.

Not considering it from the very beginning makes the chances of ruining everything much bigger. Not to mention, if the best choice ends up being taking the backsplash all the way up to the ceiling, but you already ordered all the cabinets, you will end up disappointed!

#4 Do not add too many open shelves

One of the biggest mistakes everyone makes when it comes to designing their kitchens is regarding storage! Your kitchen needs to be both practical and beautiful, which means that having a few open shelves is going to be nice. Be it for display or for design purposes only (since you can integrate a new texture with an open shelf), they are a great choice if you are fond of them.

However, if you end up with too many, you are not only losing quite a lot of storage space, but you are also creating a lot of unnecessary problems for yourself. Open shelves mean that you can see everything, which, as you get more and more kitchenware, can create greater chaos and clutter, but they also attract a lot of dust. As a result, you will have too many extra things to worry about!

If the space you have is small, forget about open shelves altogether, as they will end up being an eyesore. Otherwise, stick to a combination with more closed storage options than open ones.
