#5 Careful when it comes to colors in the kitchen
If you ask most interior designers, you will get a straightforward answer when it comes to colors in the kitchen: use them sparingly, if not very minimally. And while a pop of color with the cabinets in the kitchen sounds like an amazing idea, making them extremely bright or bold while they don’t match the rest of your house will soon become a headache. Especially since replacing the entire cabinetry would be difficult!
This is why you should choose to keep it as neutral as possible while incorporating some pops of color that will not become obsolete in a few years. You also do not have to go “colorful” in the sense of choosing rainbow hues for the tiles, backsplash, or cabinets. You can just add in accessories, maybe some artwork or green plants, a fun rug, or even some window treatments.
And before anything, make sure you are standing 100% behind the choice you are making because fixing it may just cost you a fortune!
#6 Be mindful of the house’s architecture
Whatever you plan on doing, you have to keep in mind the overall architecture of your home. Not only is the house considered the core of a house, but it is important to keep it in line with the rest of it. This does not mean that you have to limit your design choices or disregard what you like for the sake of the architecture. However, you should incorporate some of the original styles into your kitchen so that the overall design of your home flows nicely.
Take inspiration from the rest of the choices you have made around the house and the style it is built in, and incorporate them here and there. For example, if the home is made in a Spanish style, you don’t have to go heavy with the wood cabinets if you don’t like them. However, you can keep them a light color with small iron hardware and keep natural textures around, so it is authentic to the theme despite not replicating it.
It’s not about rigidity, it’s about adapting. And truthfully, we shouldn’t be telling you that if your house is built with a modern, minimalist, or industrial look, your kitchen shouldn’t look right out of a cozy cabin setting.
