Modernist styles gained popularity back in the 1930s, and although short lived, it was a way for the design of homes to move away from the stuffy pomp and circumstance of Victorian-style decor to something that almost seemed futuristic.

This new American design aesthetic wanted to move away from the grandiose and ornate to embrace a more practical and simplistic form of modern design by incorporating metals and plastics into interior design and while it might not look so modern to our eyes it was revolutionary in its day.

While this style did go on to influence many modern styles, today it just looks rather cold and sterile.

Maybe this next trend needs to be woven out of existence…..
