2. Wipe and dry the rubber seal and drum
If you have a front-loader, after you run the hot cycle, clean and completely dry the rubber gasket to avoid mold. Wipe all the nooks and crannies with a cloth dipped in mild soap or a bit of vinegar, and make sure you won’t use any harsh fabrics on the glass or enamel as they can scratch. Most front loaders have a rubber seal that collects all the dirt and weird smells inside because, let’s be honest, how often do we clean them? Most manufacturers recommend cleaning it at least once a month to get rid of unpleasant smells and bacteria that can hide in there.
For a deep cleaning, peel back all the layers and use a toothbrush for the hard-to-reach spots. To eliminate any mold or mildew in this area, dip the toothbrush in a little bleach or some baking soda. For stubborn dirt, these two ingredients are excellent!
Tip: Lifting them off of the metal should be done with caution, as you don’t want to rip or unseal them!
