#4 Project 333

This closet decluttering method is the invention of a blogger that praises the simplicity of spaces! Her idea was to limit her whole closet to only 33 pieces for three months, living this minimalist fashion challenge, which she named Project 33.

The idea behind this method is that once the three months are over, you decide which of the clothes you chose can stay and which need to be donated.

Then you repeat this with as many times as needed until you get rid of all the unnecessary clothes you have around your house. And if you happen to have way too many clothes that you can’t seem to get rid of, you should definitely pick this method up.

#5 Forty Bags in Forty Days

This one definitely falls into the very bizarre category, but it seems like it helped a few people. It’s very similar to the Five a Day method earlier, just that it decided to take some steroids.

The mastermind behind this was inspired by the Christian Lent period, and she also decided that instead of decluttering a few items each day, it’s much more efficient to do so with a whole bag!

Of course, you may not have forty bags’ worth of stuff to throw away, but at the same time, if you need to do things faster than Five a Day, this may just be the answer for you. It will just take a little more time to decide what goes in the bag and what doesn’t.

#6 If anything fails, take some inspiration from the year!

Our last method is the most bizarre and most extreme of all of them. You may have tried everything under the sun already, including the ones we mentioned before, but they didn’t work for you. This is where this method comes in, yet we cannot accurately name it as it is dependent on the year you decide to do it.

The basis of the challenge is that whichever year it may be, you have to get rid of the same number of items by the end of that year. So if it was 2015, you would have had to get rid of 2015 items by New Year’s. It is quite ambitious, and we generally suggest you try this method as the year starts, one or two months into the year, as it is quite intense.

The best part is that you can make your own rules and keep track of what you’ve already decluttered; for example, a box set of DVDs could count as one item or several depending on how many cases there are. If you’re good with taking up a big project, you could personalize the challenge for a whole space, like the attic or garage, where you know you may have way too many things.

And if you’re looking for a way to keep your newly decluttered house organized, we have found some of the best (and cheapest) organizers out there!
