1. Memory Foam Pillows
Is there a label on your memory foam pillow where it says that it’s perfectly safe to put it in the washing machine? If yes, then go ahead. But if not, you shouldn’t even think of adding them to your machine.
While these items are in the wash, they become drenched, shapeless messes (especially after you take them out), and some don’t even survive the spin cycle.
2. RaincoatsĀ
Think about this: how is your raincoat going to get a thorough cleaning if it’s waterproof? Exactly. Instead, a raincoat acts like a balloon and fills up with water with each wash.
As you can imagine, a balloon will blow up eventually, so the same thing might happen to your raincoat. And yes, it makes such a huge mess that you definitely don’t want to deal with something like this.
3. Stuffed animalsĀ
If there are any kids in your household and you want to clean their toys, you can wash their stuffed animals along with the rest of your laundry without worrying about any damage.
But if the children have any favorite stuffed animals they can’t live without, it’s best to wash them by hand rather than risk damaging them. You shouldn’t risk damaging something so valuable by washing it in a machine where an eye or button could come loose.
4. Knit hats
Even though knit hats need to be properly washed after sitting on our heads for a long time, their shape and fabric are too delicate to be washed in the washing machine. When it’s time to get it clean and fresh, hand-wash your hat in mild detergent to maintain its shape and feel.
5. Anything that’s embellishedĀ
Items that have been embellished with stitched or glued-on features should not be washed in the washing machine since they are simply too fragile to withstand the rigors of the cycle.
If you care about the condition of these garments, you should either hand wash them or get them cleaned by a professional dry cleaner. Better safe than sorry!
