1. Decluttering is not a one-time event
When I say declutter, I think about this: I need to get rid of stuff to declutter my space, and then arrange what’s left to restore order in the house. And whenever I plan to do this, I am trying to make it as efficient as possible. First, you create space by clearing out the clutter (you can make a list of things you’re planning to get rid of) and then, you organize that area so the items are simple to locate and put away, which reduces clutter to a minimum.
Whenever you feel overwhelmed by decluttering, imagine it’s a task similar to grocery shopping. You have to do it regularly, or at least once a week. Before you go shopping, you dispose of all the food that has gone bad and you make room for new ones (in the fridge or in your pantry). The same rule applies to decluttering. If you do purchase more than you need or have space for, make a place for new items.
