
12. Lip balm, gum, and other items in your pockets
I remember when I was a kid, my mom would always tell me to check my pockets before I put any of my jeans in the washing machine. And she was totally right, mostly because my brother often used to wash his earphones or keychain. That’s why it’s advised not to put anything in the dryer until you’ve checked all your pockets for various items that might belong there (crayons, cell phones, gum, or your lip balm). Turning every pocket inside out before putting your clothes in the washer is the easiest way to avoid mishaps.
Before placing wet clothing in the dryer, recheck pockets if you hear or see any indication that they weren’t emptied before the wash cycle.
